Tips from Toby – Fall Lawn Program
This is the time of year when many of us "overseed". From advertisements to big seed sales, it's what we're told to do. The truth is - most of us don't need to put down seed at all, we just need to feed the grass that is already there. Proper fertilization, watering and the cooler weather will do the rest. Grass thickens (tillers and rhyzomes) all on its own. We just need to give it a Fall boost to get there. In this week's tip we discuss whether you need to seed at all, how to properly apply seed and the equipment to get the job done right. Find out if you need to seed, or if simple fertilization will do the trick. It can save you a lot of time and money.
Tips from Toby Fall Seed Choices
In just a couple of weeks a lot of us will run out and buy some grass seed to overseed the lawn. Believe it or not - you could be doing more harm than good. Tips from Toby Winter Dormant Seeding is Easy!
Did you miss your opportunity to seed your lawn last Fall? Don't wait till Spring. Seed that is planted this Spring will germinate - but it won't be strong enough to survive the Summer heat, so you'll just wind up seeding again and again each year. Dormant seeding now while the ground is too cold to germinate the seed will allow it to be all ready to go with warmer temperatures as early as this February. That means your dormant seeded lawn will be healthy enough to survive Summer stress and you can end your perpetual loop of seeding every year! Watch the tip now to find out how easy and efficient dormant seeding can be!
Tips from Toby – The Fall Leaf Tip
The beautiful Fall leaves are coming down and unfortunately covering up all that nice green grass. It only takes a couple of days of sun blockage by those leaves to begin to yellow or kill out the grass underneath. Don't reach for that back breaking rake and leave your hands with blisters! There are incredible nutrients in those leaves that can actually be advantageous to your lawn. But the rake is not the answer, it can tear up newly seeded lawns and fill bags and leave you aching. Mulching, chopping and blowing are the better answer and you won't be filling up the landfills. Check out Toby's tip to find out how you can use those leaves to your advantage and avoid the rake!
